I rode in Glacier National park. The Going to the Sun road is still closed to cars so it’s prime bike riding time. From where we started it is 16 miles and 3,200 feet of vertical to the top of the pass.

Were you stranded in the avalanche?

Yes but there was plenty of goat to eat.

The avalanche actually ripped the rock wall right off the road for about a 40’ stretch. No avalanche danger now as almost all of that snow has melted since last week.

Yeah, my legs would not be able to handle that at the moment. I’ve been riding in much less mountainous areas. Even relatively small hills destroy them at this (plus my back and feet) at this point. Hopefully more riding will take care of them, and soon, because I have to ride up a few short, but fairly steep hills to get to a nice bike path.

Goddamn riding to the sun road. Did that a few years ago. I stopped a little short of the peak (physically I could have done it, but mental game was off as it was about 1 month after my brother died and the headwinds were pissing me off to no end). Luuurved the downhill on the other side, tho...

Wow, what a view.
I think I’m gonna be going there with my parents, grandmother, and maybe some other extended family in September. Any tips?

OOoooh...that’s about the same distance and twice the climbing from here to nearest high point. And my riding legs aren’t up to even that...

That t almost makes me motivated to get out there on 2 skinny wheels. Amazing.

Bring bear spray, east side is the best side, go for a long walk in the woods.

I find my friends bikes all the time. Last summer I found a friend a specialized stump jumper for $100.

It’s a mental game for sure, a 6-7% climb for 8 miles is hard no matter who you are.

That’s awesome. I rode about 2800 vert the other day, four laps at Highland Bike Park, which is an old ski area converted to MTB park. They have a lift but it doesn’t run Wednesday nights, however, you can ride for $10 if you can get yourself to the top. Scenery does NOT COMPARE, holy hell I’ve got to get out there.

There is a lot of really good mountain biking out here. Whitefish MTN resort is a 2000 vert climb but the downhill is off the hook.
